Can I still tame this gerbil?

-So I had three gerbils, two of them died and I'm left with just one now. She's over two years old, almost tree; but I never really took care of her, or any of the gerbils for that matter. They were my brother's, and now he's moving away and he put me in charge of the gerbil. I know gerbils are "social" creatures and they like to live in pairs, but I don't think it would be a good idea to to buy her a friend, since she's pretty old already. I'm trying to handle her as gently as possible but it seems she's always afraid of me. She's always trying to jump out of my hand when I'm holding her; she even bites and scratches me. I think it's because I never made any contact with her before, and she thinks of me as a stranger. Will she ever get used to me? What do you guys think?Take it slow. She needs to get used to you and your scent.

Try offering her treats and toys to win her trust.

She's frightened, her friends have died and her owners left leaving her with someone strange she doesn't know, you could be a threat after all. Try not to put to much stress on her she's old after all.
