Can I use Dawn on my Pup?

-We ran out of Doggy shampoo and right now we dont have enough to buy more, but we do have Dawn dishsoap with the hand lotion. Its pink. Should I? Can I?You can use it but don't make it your regular shampoo. We use dawn ultra concentrated dish soap on dogs that have gotten into things such as paint thinner, paint, sticky stuff ect.Munch is so right -- I don't know how many times dimwits have come on and recommended dishliquid for flea control as if it were harmless to the poor animal.

It's DETERGENT - it is meant to strip OIL and tar off the coats of animals, in short, it's a very, very strong detergent. It doesn't kill fleas, the eggs and larvae hatch and the fleas come right back.

It doesn't clean your dog, it strips the oil from his coat, irritates his skin and, if it gets down his throat, literally burns his insides.

Unless your dog is covered in oil and tar, use shampoo made for dogs. If you don't have any and MUST wash your dog (why can't you wait until you can buy some?), use a LITTLE bit of human shampoo --- just a little.

Dogs need the oil in their coats and they sure don't need their skin irritated by detergents.
How often do you bathe your dog? Pet dogs don't need to be bathed nearly as often as most people think (of course, show/competition dogs are bathed more often).

Only when ABSOLUTELY necessary should you shampoo your pet dog. It is bad for their coat and skin to shampoo them too often.

If this is one of those absolutely necessary times, then yes... Dawn isn't going to kill him, but try with just water. I like Johnson's Baby shampoo.
i swear the dawn dishwashing soap company should be sued for those commercials showing wild animals being bathed in their dish soap ... those animals are coated in crude oil and still the soap is diluted ... but fools watch that commercial and think, hey, let's bath the dog it is okay on the commercial ... should you - NO ... can you - i am sure you can ... for just one time use the mildest people shampoo you have ... do not use dish soap on your dog ...
I would not because dog wash is specially made for dogs and dish soap is not it is to strong just hold off on the soap wash and get some more soap when you get the chance. You don't want to take a chance and damage or irritate your doggys skin :)
NO!. I have actually checked with P&G customer service. They say don't use Dawn on dogs.

I seldom if ever bathe dogs. Frequent brushing with a soft bristled brush keeps their skin and coat in good shape, shiny, odor free, and clean.
Dawn is great for removing skunk odors, oil etc. It is strong and will dry out your pets skin so I recommend not to. If your desperate to wash your dog just use regular other than that I would wait.
Why not? They use Dawn on those little birdies on the commercials..

but I suggest you wait until you can get some dog shampoo lmfao :)
No. Wait til you get doggie shampoo
