-I have a horse that got scared and jumped a fence and now has alot of scratches on his front left leg and the post got him and punctured his leg, it is deep and has alot of puss, should i wrap it with horse wrap or leave it unwrapped (he sleeps on the side that is hurt)?
But, we dont have the money to take him to the vet.Fill a bucket with epsom salts and make certain the water is really hot but will not scald the horse. Soak his wounds. You need to keep the puncture wound hard scab free as it will abscess and not be able to drain. You can do this by putting an ointment on it and wrapping it. You will want to do a daily soak in salts for about a week. Give him a bute to control the pain every night.wrap the deep cut with vet wrap and keep it clean put antibiotics on it. Change the wrap everyday and clean it everyday.
get this spray or something like it and spray the cuts

Look for a near buy horse rescue that you can bring him to they will take care of him
Hope i helped!
Run cold water from a hose on him 2-3 times daily for 10 to 15 minutes minimum. If you can't afford anything else, at least do this for the horse. The more often you can hose him, the better the healing and less scarring. If the puncture wound tries to close up, you will have to remove the scab so it can continue to drain until it heals from the inside out. Good luck.
Get him to sleep on Other side. Get some 3% peroxide and flush wound good until it stops bubbling. Get some Tetracycline or such from a feed store and squirt it in good. Wrap Loosely.
Good Luck! It sounds bad if it's deep.
Use peroxide and the hose to completely clean the wounds. Get yourself a jar of Fura-Zone from any tack or feed store and keep liberal amounts on wounds. Clean daily. This will draw the infection out and leave minimal scarring. Hope this helps.
Vets do offer payment plans.
Treatment of a localized infection is much cheaper than treatment for sepsis, necrosis, and all the other complications that go along with leaving a puncture wound untreated.
You have a horse but don't have the money to call the vet?
