-I need some information on a new puppy.
Here is some information on her;
She is a Bordercollie
When i get her she will be 8 weeks old, that will be in 3 weeks.
I have lived with dogs my whole life, but i cant remember having them as puppies because i was only 3-4.
I just need some information to the following questions. ( I have researched heaps, and have had 2 border collies before).
What supplies do i need? Apart from the basics, like and extras that your puppys have liked/Loved! (I am going to spoil her rotten) I know i shouldent but i cant help it. I am already getting a puppy pac, lead, bowls etc with the puppy
Basic Training?? What commands etc.
Any extra information on the breed or anything else you reccomend.
P.S She is flying on a 3-4 hour flight to get here and it is a five minute drive home from the airport, any info to help her when she gets here? Has anyone ever had a puppy transported? How did they react?.
Please dont tell me its cruel, etc. We had no choice, where i live they dont sell border collies, and this was the cheapest and closest breeder.
Thanks in advance.
SkyeOK so cool ur getting a border collie. The smartest dogs in the world.
So supplies:
Dog bowls, All natural dog food, Kong toys, pull ropes etc. a crate just big enough so she can stand and turn around not pee in tho. Shampoo and comb.
commands:
Sit, down, stay, leave it, and come are the best for them to know. Email me with any questions on how to teach her those. I'll be glad to help.
When she arrives:
Remember to be calm at all times. And don't overwhelm her with toys and food. keep her limited to just two or three rooms when she first comes home and in a few days open up other doors for her to explore. Any places you don't want her in, don't let her ever even know its there.
I hope i helped. And if u have any more questions, your more than welcome to Email me.As far as housr training goes, It is best to take ur pup out every two hours if awake or when they wake up or if there sniffing around more then usual. its tireing but if u take them out every couple of hours and congradulate them after using it they will catch on quick. I have had two pups in the past year and house training was easy. my dogs were larger breeds.
get a cupcake shaped squeaky toy. it helps with the dog trying to eat human food. plus its really fun! I suggest training her to come, stay, sit, retrieve, and jump, as border collies need lots of brain work.Hope I helped!~
she will need a bed to sleep in toys, things like that food of course, a brush to groom her with as they tend to malt a bit, for basic comannds you should teach her sit, stay , to come when you call her, how to heal whilst on the lead, just say a little hello when you get her and then let her settle into her new home it will take a few days but after that she will be fine and happy , and most dogs don't mind travel ling . the breed normally likes to heard animals so if you have any other animals try to teach her to leave them alone and not heard them constantly ,she will need lots of exercises as they are a working breed of dog, and if you dint take her out enough she will become destructive and start to chew and destroy things, you can teach her agility , build some little jumps in your garden or somewhere and teach her to jump over them , it will give her good exercises, also make sure you reward her a lot when she is good, i hoped i have helped
make sure u have a comfy bed and some toys for the puppy to chew remember if they chew something they dont punish straight away we gave some leeway with our clio and she chewes through a breezeblock wall lol, always make sure u have cuddle time to let them know u care as a new puppy its very important always keep newspaper to hand for little accidents and never smack your puppy as this can in future turn them vicious, feed them the recommended food never overfeed or they will be fat get some flea treatment and dog shampoo several colars and leads and see which one works best for you, dont over treat dogs as this makes them very fat if u like to give treats give cut up veg puppies love to chew on carrots, again make sure they got plenty of toys which are theres to keep and demolish. Remember to praise your dog when e/she does something right. dont forget your poop bags too and remember as its summer dogs can get heat stroke very quick if in doubt bathe your dog is tepid water but not freezing as this will cause more damage and always make sure ur dog has plenty to drink good luck :D
