-ive did some research so far i know that ferrets are apart of the weasle family so they like to hunt.Ferrets live up to 10 years.(im willing to commit to that=D)Ferrets should get at least 4 hours of floor time.Ferrets are smart and you can teach them some tricks. Also you must clean out a ferrets ear and wash it.Clean the ferret when it gets dirty because you dont want to wash it too often because the oils might produce more i think and you clean the ears every 3-4 weeks right?
Here are my questions....
1.Can i only get one? and if i need two can i get one for now and get another one later?
2.Will they attack for no reason?
3.how do i tame a ferret?
4.What is your schedule for taking care of your ferret?
5.and last but not least do you have any videos for cleaning out the airs and clipping the nails
i always wanted a pet and i want to make sure this is the one i want...........From the items they need they remind me of cats....lol and if you can please put some extraa info
sorry for all the info
princess BYes they are amazing i Love them! (:
1.You can only have one
2 No,make sure you get a ferret not a polecat-ferret hybrid
3 Most ferrets are sold tame.
4.In the morning make sure the ferret has food, water and a clean cage if not then feed it/clean out it's cage/ill up its water bottle.

We now feed chicks and all of the ferrets love them.Remember to properly de-frost These are a by-product of the poultry industry where cockerels aren't needed and are culled.

They are not rodents they are in the Mustelidae family
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""鈥?brief history of the ferret
It is likely that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,500 years. They are still used for hunting rabbits in some parts of the world today(which is why you should nt let them near a your rabbit), but increasingly they are being kept simply as pets.

Ferrets have a long and slender body covered with brown, black, white, or mixed fur . Average length is 20 inches including a 5-inch tail. They weigh 1.5 to 4 pounds, with males substantially larger than females. There are about 3 to 7 baby ferrets in a litter, but sometimes more. Young are weaned after 3 to 6 weeks and become independent at 3 months. They can breed at 6 months. On averey they live for 8 year.

Health
Ferrets can suffer from several distinct health problems. Most are cansers that affect the adrenal glands, pancreas, and lymphatic system. Viral diseases include canine distemper and influenza. Health problems can occur in unspayed females when not being used for breeding. Certain colors of ferret may also carry a genetic defect known as Waardenburg syndrome. Similar to domestic cats, ferrets can also suffer from hairballs and dental problems
Research any pet before buying it/them..Many people think they are good pets but I wouldn't have one. No one will tell you they aren't great pets if they have one because they don't want to admit there are disadvantages to having one. They aren't like cats, not as clean. Actually ferrets are domesticated weasels.
yes but they poop all over if you let them run around the house.
Get one, they are cool!
1. You can only get one ferret. If you buy one now, you can get one later, just make sure its not too much later because the ferret will get used to being alone and might be defensive of his territory when the new ferret comes.
2.Ferrets don't attack for no reason. They don't really attack at all. They might bite your feet, but they are just trying to play with you.
3.Ferrets are domesticated animals, you don't need to tame them. You might need to train them to stop biting you though.
4. My schedule revolves around when he wants out. I usually let him out when I wake up, and then when I get home from work and then right before I go to bed. He plays for about 1-2 hours at a time before he gets tired. During this time I will clean his litter, clean his cage, get him fresh food and water. I wash his cage out and his bedding and hammocks about once a week. I also clean his ears when they get dirty and clip his nails when they get long. Unfortunately, I don't have any videos of how to do this. But I will say that I put a dab of ferretvite on his belly and he licks that making it much easier to clip his nails. I also bath him once a month or so, like you said you don't want to bath him too much and wash off the oils in his coat.
Ferrets are a lot of work because they get into everything. Any small nook they can squeeze into. They are very curious animals and will get into anything and can climb up things. You have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get into anything that could hurt them or eat anything they shouldn't like candy or human food. I would definitely recommend a cage for you ferret, because you want to make sure he is safe when you are not home. I would not let him roam free without you being there. Ferrets are very cute and playful. They do have a slight smell, but its not something that I think is awful. You will also need a hammock in his cage to sleep in, because they love that. And of course you need food-make sure chicken is the first ingredient. And you will want to get ear cleaner, nail clippers, a good sized cage-i recommend a ferret nation cage, i also recommend a blanket to put over the cage because they sleep a lot and like it dark, ferretvite, treats,a hammock, litter pan, litter scoop, litter-i recommend swheat scoop, food dish, water dish, ferret shampoo, and of course toys! good luck :)
First of all, ferrets are high maintenance pets (if you want them happy, healthy and well adjusted, that is). Always do your research, and even if you do become a ferrent, you STILL need to research, new things are always out there and to be a great pet owner, you need to be aware of every aspect of their care. Here's a good, friendly forum: http://holisticferret60.proboards.com/in鈥?/a>
It centers around holistic pet care (natural diets, herbal remedies to *augment* traditional care, etc), but they welcome everything and everyone and love helping people new to ferrets. Definitely check them out :D
To get on with your questions:
1) Ferrets are social animals, so basically the more the merrier. Generally, they will welcome in another ferret at any time (you DO have exceptions), although it is easier to begin with two and THEN wait a few years before adding in more, you don't have to, many people have single ferrets for months or years before adding in a new guy. Just beware of the "no blood, no poo, no foul" rule. Meaning short of seeing blood or having a ferret poo himself out of fear upon introductions, DO NOT interpret the ferrets as they sort through the pecking order. That doesn't mean leave them unsupervised while everyone's new and unsure, but it does mean that if no one's bleeding or crapping themselves, make sure intros end naturally before separating them. Also, for a single ferret, they need at least SIX hours out. Four is for multiples (who have a spacious cage).
2) Does a dog attack for no reason? Or a cat? Ferrets are as likely as either of those to "attack for no reason." So think about instances where you've heard about a dog attack someone seemingly out of the blue. Probably you'd find that it was abused/neglected/unsocialized. Same thing with a ferret. Be a good ferrent and you won't have an issue. Provoke them via abuse or neglect or failing to teach them proper behavior and you get what you deserve. Just like with any other animal :)
3) American ferrets are not "tamed" wild animals. They are 100% domesticated. A dog or cat can go feral; a ferret can't.
4) I generally try to keep them on a natural schedule (artificial light is unhealthy for them). I have four ferrets, right now, and two FN cages. Three of my ferrets are caged at night (they like it) and one isn't (he doesn't like it, and my two males get along, but there's friction, so I don't like housing them together, anyway). I feed them (I have mine on a raw diet). And they play in their room until bedtime (usually they're out for about 10-12 hours if not more a day, with visits from me spread throughout the day). Then they're fed again and the three are put up until the next day. Generally I try to especially visit around dawn and dusk, because these are the hours they're most active (though they get a second wind around 9-10 o'clock at night).
5) For ears and nails, no videos, but for me it's simple - I just scruff with one hand and clip with the other (or scruff with one hands and squirt ear cleaner in with the other, and then just let them shake it back out. You'd be surprised at the amount of dirt you get cleaned out by doing that!). Generally I clean ears once a week, clip nails every 3-4 days and I NEVER give baths. I don't need to ( a combo of proper, balanced diet, weekly laundry cleanings, daily litterbox cleanings, and a lot of time unconfined guarantees that my guys have nice scents).
they are very good pets, but they sleep all day and react the same as cats because it is their ancestors. all you need is a little spot for it to sleep, some ferret food and some water and there you have it! i wouldn't waste your money on one of those cages, they are a total waste of money, i haven't had a ferret i want one but they are so small and delicate. i would start with a cat. since ferrets are much like cats.
good luck with your ferret if you get one!
no, males have to be at the same time and know each other from the start at birth. its like that with all male animals be sure to spread the word of that.
females can be together for as long as you want them to they love sleeping in the same bed too its adorable!
they only do it out of fun if they do!
play with it and take it out, give it some time to adapt into your home!
....dont have one, lol but if i did right when i woke up i would play with it for one hour if i have time and when i got home from school(if your in school that is) i would play with it for 3 more hours!
Hey, by the way. what are you planning on naming him or her? also is it a him, or a her? lol
sorry, no ferret no video... <:) lol i will be uploading my last video of my little guinea pig, who sadley is ill and has to be fixed and if they cant fix her and bring her back to health and put her up for adoption then she has to be put down...:( sorry for venting lol
