I am going to buy a crested gecko and house it in a 30x30x45cm exoterra tank. The tank will include a shallow water dish, vines and plastic plants, a hide, analogue hygrometer and thermometer and coconut husk substrate. Also a heat mat as my room gets very cold in the winter, i am not planning on using any lighting other than a night glow bulb so I can see it at night. I will move it into a larger 45x45x60cm tank when it is fully grown.
I am planning on feeding it CGD everyday and dusted crickets once a week and as it gets older feeding it crickets 2-3 times a week and CGD every other day.
Was also wondering if this regime could be changed, say if i was going away and my neighbour was only willing to feed it CGD, would the gecko be ok without bugs for a few weeks. Also would it be ok to leave it on its own for a weekend?
Thanks! constructive criticism welcome. That al sounds pretty good, but don't use a heating pad, use a light. Pet reptiles will often stay on the heating mats too long and burn themselves, so it's always better to get a heating lamp. I wouldn't suggest leaving it alone for more than a day, just have someone go in and check on it. And while it may be ok to feed it less crickets, I wouldn't stop feeding it crickets for very long. Hope this was what you were looking for!
I'd say you should put a heating light for the day too. and yes you can leave them for a weekend but make sure to feed them before you leave. for a few weeks, it depends on how much them ate before, I wouldn't take chances. you can feed them some worms but they usually stick to crickets. aside from that it looks good
yup ive cared for them before also feed it meal worms
Sounds good but might wanna feed it a little more crickets
