Bunny owners please answer?

-My parents don't know how much I want a rabbit. I have been researching everyday. I know I want a baby holland lop. I was thinking since it is summer, I could get a jar and fill it up with change I find. By Christmas when I empty it I will see how much I have and ask for a bunny for X-mas and use that money to help pay for it??i have a bunny. she is alot of work, so make sure you are prepared,

the initial cost can be from 200-400 $ so if you can babysit and dog walk that woulld be great ! i dont know how old you are but if you have a job i would save up from that too.

bedding and food will run up to about 15 dollars a month, or two. i only have one. so i pay about 20$ every two months. but depending on how many you have will effect the pricing.

if you get a baby then you will need to spay/neuter it. which can cost up to 400 $ dollars itself. i suggest getting one from a shelter where they are already spayed/neutered. but they wont be babies. i got mine from a petstore. nothing wrong about that. my bunny is perfectly healthy ! but if you want tot save money i would go with one from a shelter.

i know its a little early, but make sure you are ready to care for one, they need their cage cleaned every 2 days and they have specific dietary needs. i have a youtube account on animal care and this will help with the feeding process.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i615RbZEE鈥?/a>Make a power point presentation including all the research you have learned. Put down stuff about what you feed them, what you keep them in, bedding, hay, toys etc., how long they live, what breed you want, stuff about the breed like how big they get, what they look like, how long they tend to live etc, also include things about spaying/neuteuring, as this is a must if you are planning on keeping a rabbit indoors.

Also, before you get a rabbit, think ahead yourself. Where will you be in 7+ years? Rabbits are a long term responsibility. Some rabbits live over ten years. Will you still be at home? Will your parents still be willing to look after your bunny when you move away for college/work/go travelling?

Good luck!

A good rabbit forum is http://www.rabbitsonline.net
It really depends. Usually, Holland Lops don't cost that much. Unless they are use for shows and are purebred.(Most of the time)

I have a few breeders a few hours from me. All their Holland Lops are about $20-35

Personally, I have 2 netherland dwarfs and they were both $60

Rabbits are easy to take care of. But they do poop a lot, need attention, and you must clean their cage. You have to remember they don't show affection like cats and dogs. Bonding with them can take a few days to months. Talk to your parents about how you will care for the rabbit. That may help.
As with all pets, it's not just the buying of the pet that costs money but also the upkeep. We have a rabbit and she lives outside in a sheltered area of the garden.she has a 2 storey hutch with a run and lots of room to exercise. We live in the UK so she goes in the shed for the winter. She only cost us 拢25 to buy but on top of that she needs food, sawdust, hay, and inoculations at the vet. Maybe your folks think a rabbit will cost too much money?
I bought mine in chino hills for $10. 6lbs. Of food is $5 and my rabbit uses a bag in like 3 days but thts because he poops and pees on, still working on gettin him potty trained but with my past rabbits 5 lbs. Lasts for bout 1 month and a half, so thts $10 for the bunny and $5 a monthe or so for food. Snd the basics water. I let mine eat grass outside.( hes an outdoor bunny) i use leaves of orang, avocado, and tomato plants/trees for treats. So far thts $10 for ur bun and $5 a month or so for food. Now here r more of the basics: big cage for it, $20. Thts bout it, oh and spray and nuterin=$40. U dnt really need to take them to the vet much. So for ur first year its gonna be $130 and all the years after tht itll jst be $60, excluding vet. Good luck n plus rabbit r easy ti take care of.
Um, buying a rabbit isn't the problem....It's paying for the food, and vet bills. You could get a cage and a rabbit for free at many places, it's the things you have to keeeeep buying over and over and over and over and...have i made my point?!
You can do that, or make a certain deal with your parents. BUt please make sure you know how big a responsibility it is. I know you've heard this a lot!! But having a rabbit is A LOT of work!
Here's an idea, go on craigslist. They usually will sell bunnies for free. Or a small re-homing fee. Some will even give you all there supplies. You might not get a baby though, but atleast your giving an adult another chance. :)
usually shelters also carry rabbits. you should tell your parents u want to save a rabbit from being euthanized!
