-My corn snake has these weird freak outs sometimes like he just goes completely mad and goes as fast as he can all around his cage and then the next minute he goes into his hiding spot and he's fine, I know it can't be stress because I hold him regularly, feed him whenever he needs fed, he has 2 hides and perfect access to water and heat from a heat pad under the gravel, he does this freak out not very often but when he does it scares me in case he's in some sort of trouble, its been happening for many months now and I don't know what it could be ????He maybe see you come into the room and was not expecting cause him to freak out and try to get away, but realizes you are not going to hurt him and relaxes. Or he may be try to get out of his enclosure.He might just be getting spooked, do you have a cat or dog? My corn still tries to get out occasionally during the night, but she calms down after a few minutes of it. He could be stressed out actually, if you hold him too often though. Instead of gravel, you really should use wood chips, or coconut bark or something like that. I don't know how you feed him, but if they ingest it during feeding, it can be digested unlike rocks. (Not that they really should eat it.)
It probobly is stress. Many animals get stressed from the smallest things. If anything he probobly is getting spooked. Just let him know you are there before you go up and grab him.
