-I just bought a 18" 15 watt light for my aquarium. It's from the brand Flora Sun. We only bought the light, nothing to install it. I'm not going to get a hood for my aquarium, just the lights. I'm also not going to have live plants. How do I install the light, how many lights do I need, and is this this right kind of light for my 10 gallon?Since you're not growing plants (or anything else that's photosynthetic, I'm assuming), then the kind of light you're getting doesn't really matter. Just stick with your one fluorescent, more will just lead to algae problems.
As for installing it, you'll need a fluorescent fixture for the bulb to go in. If you don't want to get a hood, then you would need a light strip, as well as a glass canopy for the light strip to rest on.

The size you'll want for both are 20".You need some sort of hood for the tank.. it'll avoid fish jumping out, keep evaporation down, and keep dirt and dust out of the water. They sell a cheap plexiglass hood that fits over the tank, if you're looking to save money. You can even get your own piece of plexiglass cut, just make sure to glue some sort of handle to it so you can remove it.
You need a fixture for the light of some sort, and if you're using a tube light, it'll rest on the top of the tank. This is another reason you need a hood, you can't get water on the light for obvious reasons. Again, if you're looking to keep on a budget, there's tutorials online about how to make a light hood out of shop lights and plastic gutters.. it looks easy enough.
Lastly, I'll say if you're really opposed to having a hood, and aren't planting anything in the tank, you can really just get one of those clip on desk lamps and put that on the edge of the tank. Your tank is small enough, and the light will serve it's purpose. You'd probably want to make sure to get a CFL light instead of an incandescent light though, they put off too much heat.
