-My 8wk old black lab pup is on his second day of deworming. Yesterday I put a little warm water in the food to soften it and mixed in the worming granules and he ate it no problem...But today he wont eat any I already put the wormer in with the food. What can I add to the food to get him to eat it? Or should I just leave it hoping that he'll eat it eventually? (He has already eaten a little bit today so its not like he's just refusing to eat entirely)
Any help ASAP will be very appreciated!Low salt chicken broth or some plain yogurt. (You could even sprinkle just a little bit of Parmesan Cheese on the food. The smell of that should attract him)I would leave the food for him to eat on his own, even if he only eats a little through the day he is still getting wormed. Now that you know he does not want to eat the food with the worm er in it try petting the pill in some lunch meat (rolled up) and he should eat it willingly. If that does not work force it down his throat and rube his neck to get him to swallow or crush and mix with water in a syringe and force it down. hope this helps.
Our dogs cannot resist liverwurst.
But first I would mix in some canned food, of the same kind as the dry food to prevent diarrhea. The worming granules probably taste bad to him. Instead of the dry food making the granules appetizing, the granules are making the dry food unappetizing.
You should have him wormed at the vet only. They shoot the liquid wormer down their mouth within seconds,no issues at all.
And 2 days in a row is too much too soon. He can become ill. Those at home wormers such as Hartz are no good and have killed lots of pets.
dogmail5 is right but if you want him to eat it better next week you can try adding treats to it like milk bone chunks or anything your puppy enjoys eating.
He probably feels horribly sick from such frequent worming. Your supposed to wait two weeks til a second worming. Especially that young.
Just leave the food out, he'll eat it when he's ready.
