-My dog is itching like crazy, & has scabs. Mainly on the back of her neck, but also on her back & legs. She also had diarrhea for 3 weeks but only once a day! Finally after giving her chicken & rice with some pumpkin for the last 10 days she is diarrhea free for the last week. Our vet didn't really give us an answer as to what was causing either of her problems but gave her shots & meds which did nothing, and made her act crazy. Any ideas what might be causing it? & natural ways to stop it? It doesn't seem to be fleas. We were using natural drops of oils for pest control which we have stopped for fear this may be causing the itching. We stopped dry food (Wellness) for fear of food allergy.
Any help appreciated.Flea allergy dermatitis is one common condition that causes intense itching in dogs and sarcoptic mange or scabies is another. Scabies is diagnosed by a skin scraping and flea allergy is a reaction to flea saliva and it only takes one darn flea to cause problems.
There are other dermatological conditions, including allergy that can lead to itching. Food allergy is rather uncommon, but atopy as a reaction to inhaled allergens just like in people is rather common.
I'd discuss these issues with your Vet. If this Vet did not rule out flea allergy dermatitis or do a skin scraping for mange mites I'd go somewhere else. Once those two are ruled out you have to start looking into allergy or some other primary skin condition.Your dog may have a skin desease that I lost my dog to. But to get rid of it bathe your dog daily with shapoo containing oatmeal and once she is dry clean the wounds with peroxide and use some chamomile oil on her for two weeks and she should heal up.
Some people on here don't actually know what it is and if you listen to a medicine they try "per-scribing" it might make it worse. I hope she is ok. Good Luck.
Is she losing hair?
