OMG HELP MY DOG ON A PLANE??? help PLEASE!! :(?

-im putting my dog on a plane and im so scared for her

she is too big to be able to fit under my seat so she has to go as cargo but i dont want her to

how do i make her feel comfortable and make sure shes safe please help!!!!!! :(

during the flight are flight attendants allowed to check on my pet?

should i sedate herr?

i first thought it was a good idea but now i read something that says it might cause problems :(((

help please for gina's sake :(i have a great dane travel with me, biggest dogs in wolrd and she loves it enjoys the long nap :)No the flight attendants cannot check on her because she will be in cargo (but the pressurized temperature controlled section of cargo.)

However, many airlines do not transport pets during very cold or very hot parts of the year, so check with your airline to make sure she can be transported when you are traveling.

There are also companies that specialize in transporting pets by air. Here is one:

Make sure you are feeding her a quality dog food with fiber, not people food or soft food.
Do not sedate the dog. It can cause major problems including issues with being able to regulate there temperatures. No no one checks on the dog during the flight. They are in the cargo hold not accessible under normal circumstances from the main plane.

As far as safty do not fly the dog in extreme weather conditions, either very hot or very cold. When there are problems with animals flying cargo they most typically occur when weather conditions are extreme as unlike the cabin the cargo hold is not climate controlled.
Relax is the best thing. NEVER sedate any pet when traveling by plane (and its against regulations anyway). Line the carrier with pee pads in case of an accident. The cargo is pressurized and climate controlled, so no worries. Since its under the plane there is no way you can check on the pet during flight.

I've shipped cats and taken them in cabin with me and have had no problems.
If you are worried, call your vet so they can suggest what you can sedate her with so she will be sleepy and calm, but only do this if she is high strung and cannot handle strange places well. Make sure the compartment she will be in is safe for animal travel (call and confirm this with the airline).
No airline will fly a sedated dog-do not sedate her.

There is no way the flight attendants will allow you to check on the dog, she will be in cargo.

Airlines do this all the time but of course there are always risk.

You dog needs more fiber add some carrots to her food or some pumpkin.

Don't feed her for at least 6 hours before she flys
Calm down!! It's alright. Yes sedating her would cause problems. Your dog is WAY less nervous than you are. A dog is fine, just give is some toys or a blanket. I assure you that when your on a plane and 'scared' about her, she will be asleep, not caring about anything. Calm down honey.

She will be fine as long as you leave her with comfort items like a blanket and chew toy. Also leave something like a sweater with your scent on it so that she could relax and enjoy the ride.
