What should I get my new puppy before he arrives?

-I am getting a Chihuahua/Pinscher mix. It is a very small dog!!!

What type of food,shampoo(BY THE WAY, is it safe to use baby shampoo on my puppy?), and other stuff should i get him?

Should i get ITS stuff at WALMART?Dog bed, food/water dish, collar, leash, one of those things u use to hook 'em up outside, kennel (make sure it can turn stand and sit), chew toys, dog shampoo, flee treatment. That's all i can think of.I would also recommend a small crate. The dog may take a little while to adjust to a new home, and especially if it is a puppy being away from the mother and sibling can take some getting use to. A crate can be sort of a "den" or bedroom for dogs. They find they can hind there and feel safe. It is also great for potty training, because if the dog sleeps there it is very doubtful they will go to the bathroom where they sleep. Hope this help! Congrats on your new puppy and Good Luck!!
I find puppy shampoo a bit harsh and go with oatmeal from Petsmart. I would not use human shampoo.



You should get a travel/training crate, food, food bowls and an assortment of chew toys (rubber squeaky, rubber ball, rope, nyla-bone). Get some Nature's Miracle, you'll end up needing it.

The type of food you should get is the same type of food the breeder or shelter had it on.



Walmart here has a nice stainless bowl set for fairly cheap. Although it was too big for my 8 week old Dachshunds and I had to get a cat dish to feed them out of for a few weeks.
A bed, a bowl for food & a bowl for water, a collar & lead, some toys and an owner who's read all about keeping a dog : ) (Only use shampoo for dogs-you can get puppy shampoo. And you can buy his things anywhere-expensive doesn't mean better.)
You should ask whom ever you are getting the dog from. They will know everything that this dog likes and dislikes, and no you don't want to use baby shampoo on dogs, dog specified shampoo is best.

Mostly the stuff at Wal*Mart is fine. The breeder may even be feeding a food available there which you should stick with.
